De Kittenmand haalt (zwerf)kittens van straat die daar alleen worden aangetroffen. Soms komt ook het moederpoesje mee. Opvang gebeurt bij gastgezinnen thuis waar de katjes zeer liefdevol worden opgevangen. De vorm van opvang varieert van pasgeboren kittens die de fles krijgen, tot zieke die dringend hulp nodig hebben of schuwe die gesocialiseerd moeten worden.
